You don’t want to miss the industry panels, including Princess Diana’s legendary makeup artist @marygreenwell and Glow UP maestros @valgarland and @dominc_mua – three of the beauty industry’s superheroes – who are part of a jam packed five day schedule of beauty trend setters, panels, presentations and discussions on all things beauty.
From cutting edge hair tools to new makeup product releases along with the ultimate makeup mecca that is Space NK, British Beauty Week promises to be your perfect antidote to more than 20 months of Covid misery. Editorial beauty bibles Harpers Bazaar, Cosmopolitan and Elle Magazine will also be at the live event, in London’s beauty playground – Covent Garden – a delicious cosmetics carousel for beauty lovers everywhere.
British Beauty Week is hosted by the British Beauty Council – the brainchild of makeup maverick and beauty industry legend Millie Kendall. She is my cosmetics crush and beauty branding ninja whom I have admired from afar throughout her epic career.
She was banned from wearing makeup as a teenager (oh how I identified when I read that.) Millie Kendall’s mother was a punk with green and orange hair and her father a hairdresser, who’s salon she started working in at just 13 years old.
Millie went on to work with cosmetics star and cult brand Shu Uemura, which she helped launch in Europe when she was only 19 years old, and later helped launch global brands including Aveda, Stila and L’Occitane, to name just a few. In 1998 she launched her eponymous makeup brand Ruby and Millie cosmetics, with her friend Ruby Hammer.
Millie Kendall is now a beauty industry icon who runs her beauty branding and PR company BRANDStand in partnership with fellow industry legend Anna Marie Solowij (ex-Vogue beauty editor). Together they also created Beauty Mart, an online retailer that curates and sells only the best hero products from our most beloved beauty brands. Or as Millie put it so brilliantly:
“Beauty Mart cuts through the shit to bring you the best”Millie Kendall
Millie Kendall created the British Beauty Council to champion the education and reputation of all of us who work in this glorious beauty business. The British Beauty Council is for us all – from film & editorial makeup artists to salon owners and cosmetic brands and every beauty career path in-between.
British Beauty Week ’21 is a celebration of our industry which, according to the Office of National Statistics, was worth £27 billion to the British economy last year, despite a national lockdown.
